India: Air Letter Treated a Short Paid Air Mail Letter
This air letter (India #3, on grey paper) caught my eye because of the high taxation. Air letter sent from AMBALA (26 JAN 50) to Birkach, Germany. Taxed 114 cents (UPU centimes).
Only from 1st September 1950, air letter service from India was extended to all countries where air mail facility was available at that time; vide Postal Notice No. 26 dated 24th July 1950
This air letter was treated as a short paid ordinary air mail letter, for which the applicable rate was 14 AS. Double deficiency, hence, was 16 AS, which were converted into UPU centimes at a rate of 1 AS = 7 ⅛ UPU ctms.
No apparent postage due handling in country of destination.
