Colombia: Aeromisiva Precusor of Aerogrammes

 

20 centavos Aeromisiva, a precursor of aerogrammes, issued in 1923 by SCADTA. The Colombian-German Air Transport Society (Spanish: Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transporte Aéreo) was the world's second airline, and the first airline in the Americas, operating from 1919 until World War II. For this precursor enclosures already would have meant a higher rate of postage.

Australia: Start of Air Letter Service to the US, February 10, 1947

Air letter #A-2 sent from RICHMOND (10 FEB 47) to Baltimore, US. The handstamp "1st day Aust - USA" most likely is private.

The sender wrote: "Just a hurried note to send this off to you. I read in this mornings news paper that from to-day we are able to send these 'flimsys'" to the U.S.A., so it is really First Day." 
The first air letters had the nickname "flimsy".

Before the decisions of the 1952 Brussels UPU congress came into effect on July 1, 1953, air letter service was subject to bilateral agreements between countries. This air letter was sent on the first day of the agreements with the US, which was in fact unilateral in the beginning as the US only started sending air letters to Australia on April 29, 1947.

British Solomon Islands: Commercially Used Aerogramme

This is British Solomon Islands #1, uprated with a 1 c stamp. The aerogramme was commercially used (HONIARA 11 FEB 75). Commercially used aerogrammes of the Pacific Islands are hard to find.

Trinidad: Invalid Use of UK Aerogramme

Invalid use of UK aerogrammme in Trinidad in November 1960. Indicium marked as invalid postage as per UPU rules.

Sierra Leone: Uprated Inland Aerogramme

This is Sierra Leone #8, a domestic aerogramme, which was uprated with a 4 c stamp to meet the 7 c aerogramme rate to Europe. Sent from Freetown (2 APR 1966) to Ennepetal, Germany.

Kenya: Advertising Slogan Cancel for Aerogrammes
